For anyone looking for the perfect date night in Cambridge, this is it! Last weekend, my best friend and I ventured to the Town and Gown Pub and Theatre for one of their fortnightly comedy nights, and let me tell you, it did not disappoint! You know that feeling when you’ve laughed so much your face hurts? Well, that was exactly what we experienced!

The ‘Big Deal Comedy Club’ is a very intimate theatre, nestled within a stylish and contemporary pub that offers everything from shuffleboard to cosy theatrical-style booths and exquisite cocktails.

What more could you want? Laughter, fun, a few drinks, and a moonlit walk around the beautiful cobblestone streets of Cambridge afterward. This date will certainly earn you some brownie points.

The Town and Gown Comedy Show

Every show at the Town and Gown features a brand-new lineup. The compere was hilarious, expertly ripping into the crowd with quick-witted banter. Two Irish comedians weren’t afraid to take the mick out of the upper-class folk of Cambridge, the poor American postman, and the police officer in the audience got pulled apart. LOL! The third act was a 40-year-old woman who joked about middle-aged festivals and our kids not finding us cool, making us want to try even harder. I could totally relate to this as a mother of an 11-year-old. Very funny indeed!

Seats are arranged around their chessboard stage and only go back maybe four rows deep, so when I say it’s intimate… it really is. Sitting on the back row will not save you from a bit of light-hearted teasing. I was lucky enough to capture a moment where the compere quizzed a couple on their first date. Parking at his place and walking into town to save a buck or two, Risky! It’s so funny how she’s so awkwardly not interested! Watch it here;

There are a couple of intervals during the show to allow for trips to the bar. (I can’t recommend their lychee martinis highly enough!).

All in all, as a date night idea, I’d give this a solid 9/10. Whether you’re looking to impress a first date or enjoy a hilarious evening with your partner, Town and Gown Cambridge promises an unforgettable experience!

Make a Day of It

If you’re in Cambridge for the whole day, check out my recommended Cambridge day trip itinerary. The Kings College Chapel is a must see, and I recommend joining a walking tour so that you can learn some of the fascinating things about what makes Cambridge so famous.

Be sure to stop off at the Tivoli for rooftop drinks and a game of shuffleboard, and I highly recommend stopping at Kibou Cambridge for mouth-watering sushi pre-show. The comedy venue calls for a laid-back date night outfit. Take a look at the blog “One Black Maxi Dress Styled 15 Ways” for inspiration.
